The R mailing list archive is moving!

The new location is

Latest   R-help   R-devel   R-announce

This is an archive of the three R mailing lists, R-announce, R-help and R-devel. The archive is automatically updated twice a day, so anything posted to the list should be there within a day. You can tell the last time the archive was updated by checking the date on one of the index files, by following the links for the the latest section of the R-help archive.

The archive is split up by date (see below for details)

What is R?

R is a statistical language, not unlike S, being developed under GNU copyleft by Robert Gentleman and Ross Ihaka of the University of Auckland. The latest version of R software and documentation is available from the R-project web page.

For more information on R, see the Frequently Asked Questions list for R.

Thanks to Martin Maechler, there are three mailing lists devoted to R:

r-announce
This list is for announcements about the development of R and the availability of new code. [archive sections]

To subscribe to the R-announce mailing list, send mail to r-announce-request@stat.math.ethz.ch with subscribe in the messge body (not in the subject line!). Information about the list can be obtained by sending an email with info as its contents (again, in the message body, not the subject line!) to the same address.

r-help
The `main' R mailing list, for announcements about the development of R and the availability of new code, questions and answers about problems and solutions using R, enhancements and patches to the source code and documentation of R, comparison and compatibility with S and S-plus, and for the posting of nice examples and, benchmarks. [archive sections]

To subscribe to the R-help mailing list, send mail to r-help-request@stat.math.ethz.ch with subscribe in the messge body (not in the subject line!). Information about the list can be obtained by sending an email with info as its contents (again, in the message body, not the subject line!) to the same address.

r-devel
This list is for discussions about the future of R and pre-testing of new versions. It is meant for those who maintain an active position in the development of R.[archive sections]

Subscribe the the r-devel list by suitably permuting the request address.

Sections of the archive

The archives are split up by date, to prevent directories becoming too big.

The R-testers Mailing list. Before the mailing list was split into the three mailing lists, all the R e-mail traffic was in this list.
Details about archives from these lists in other formats can be found here.

Search the R mailing list archives

Hotbot has removed the ability to restrict searches to sub-directories of web-servers. This means that the search facility is unlikely to be useful. You could try including "R help archive" in your search terms. I'll leave it up, please e-mail me if you find it useful.

The search depends on viewing this page from a web server. If you're not connected to the net, viewing this page as a local file, or hotbot isn't working, then the search won't work.

Also be aware that this will always return the index pages if you pick words that appear in the subject line.
